“Local environmental groups in Kilgore hosted an informational presentation Wednesday evening at Idaho Brewing Company for residents of Idaho Falls over Excellon’s exploratory mining operation in the Centennial Mountains.

In 2021, the Caribou-Targhee National Forest allowed Excellon Idaho Gold, a subsidiary of the Canadian company Excellon Resources, to drill about 130 exploratory sites and construct several miles of road in an area near Kilgore within the Centennial Mountains near the Montana border.

Since then, environmental groups like the Greater Yellowstone Coalition and the Idaho Conservation League have faced pushback and litigation. According to the Associated Press, the two groups filed lawsuits against the U.S. Forest Service in 2018 and 2022 to stop the drilling.”
